Welcome to the forum. There appear to be a lot of us retirees around We are quite relaxed on this forum and I think that you'll find generally anything goes here as long as it's decent and legal! Hopefully you'll find some interesting discussions here. I agree about work. Everything has changed out of all recognition from the "good old days" and these days it seems to be more about politics, paperwork, and making sure that a certain part of the anatomy is covered if anything goes wrong!

And was it true what they said about Euston doing no work either? I can't remember, but did Euston provide a PNR spare crew for Camden?

Yes although we did have a L/T that picked up NB Euston CX then went Golders-Kennington-Archway-Morden before grub but otherwise the turns were really good coming out of depots on the E/T mainly. We also did a lot of stock moves via Euston/Kings Cross loops, shunting trains into formation at Highgate ready to go to NCL and then there was sleet duties. After covering the book ons at Euston we went to Camden along with the Golders & Kennington crews.

Hi graham, welcome, you wouldn't happen to be friends with someone who worked at Stratford Market Depot? I remember a colleague mentioning having several friends in Oz through enthusiast groups (I'm not assuming that all people there must know each other) I don't believe so... I'll add that I have never worked in rail at all, but my Grandfather worked for GER, LNER & BR before retiring from an office job at Liverpool Street in 1962.

I second the above and the change is what is wrong with the job these days from what I hear but I wonder what the figures for the staff satisfaction surveys show nowadays. I think in the beginning they were honest enough but I recall thinking after a couple of years that the true results were either withheld or presented in a way which changed the emphasis because what we were being told didn't match what we, our colleagues and those we knew in other departments/sections were thinking.

Good afternoon, I'm Russell Maiden (aka hangerlanejn). Never an employee of the Combine (worked for Main Line railways 1962 - 1996) but good friends with quite a few people who are or were. Main interests are anything to do with signalling, and line histories, particularly in connection with the District and Piccadilly lines. I do have a proprietary interest in signalling in my "hobby", as Signalling Manager on a major heritage railway.
Best wishes for a successful Forum.
Russell.

Hi Russell welcome to the Forum.
Its nice to know a bit about our members, what there interests are, whether they've worked on the railway etc. It makes for good debate as there's always someone out there who can answer a question.
My interest is also signalling but operating the Box/Cabin, miss those days of being in an LU Cabin, the distinctive smell of the heat coming up from the Relay room through a greasy well oiled Frame.
Enjoy the forum.

Thanks GentlemanJim - I know exactly what you mean in your second para! Similarly, the smell of polished linoleum, and a lighted oil lamp...

Ah, another potential old git! Welcome to the forum. I think there's probably a few staff around now who would take severance if they could get it.
