Hi all. I'm Chris Osman. I am the proud owner of RM2179 which is nearing the end of a 3 1/2 year restoration. I didn't work on London Transport having spent my 46 year career on British Rail and it's successors. I finally retired in 2008 and purchased RM 2179 as a big boys toy! in 2009. I am also currently Chairman of the Network SouthEast Railway Society and owner of 2 ex racing greyhounds and member of the fundraising committee of the Brighton Retired Greyhound Trust. I spent my youth living in Neasden and spent many happy hours in the 50's and 60's bus and underground train spotting!

Hello all, I'm Ben, no doubt some of you might recognise me from elsewhere. Currently a student studying civil engineering, I hope once graduated to do something connected with the trains or buses in London. My main interest has always been in the tube and its development, though nowadays I'm almost as keen on the rail scene in London, the buses, and the other modes LT traditionally ran too. I was pointed here by a friend, and am really looking forward to learning new things about the past and present. Best of luck with the forum

Hi Matthew welcome to the Forum and hope you will enjoy and contribute to the Forum. I met you at Wood Lane when I was a Signalman, you showed us how you'd discharge T/C and thought the desk opposite the Duty Engineers was on but not live...... ping and off went ROV-HAI O/R.... happy days. I'm sure there are others who will remember you.

Hi all. I'm a driver for LUL. Been driving for 7 years and was a CSA before that. I enjoy my job lots - I guess it helps that the tube fascinates me!

This forum has been open just over a week now, so I think it's time I introduced myself I joined the Underground as a Guard in 1973 when jobs were plentiful everywhere and nobody wanted to work on the Underground as there were much better paying jobs elsewhere where people could work nine to five M-F and saw daylight most of the time!. Other than eleven months as a driver on the Piccadilly line in 1976 (as the 73 stock were being introduced and the extension to Heathrow had not long been open), I have always been on the Northern line at Morden. Beginning as a Guard, I then went to Guard Shunter then to Guard/Motorman and finally Motorman. Motorman being the correct term in those days because for some silly reason women were not allowed on the trains, only on the station side. I was a Motorman road trainer and, in the early nineties became an Instructor Operator when the grade was first introduced (an I/Op is a driver who also does training), a grade I remained in until I took early retirement in 2009 because I was becoming bored. During my time on the Underground, I was fortunate to be involved with various projects and other things, all of which I found very interesting and it allowed me to increase my knowledge of the job. In the early eighties, I created various books and I enlarged and improved them over the years, including: Duty books for the different depots on the line and the format later spread to the rest of the combine. Northern Line Line Information Book. This was enlarged and improved on over the years and even copied exactly by others! Defects books for the 1959 and 1972 stock, and then later the first defects book for the 1995 stock. I also worked on the Northern line Failures and Area Information folders (the white A4 landscape ring binders) for the various Northern line controlled area stations that may still be found in the stations. I never regretted joining the Underground and enjoyed my time on there immensely. Roger

I'm a former guard and motorman from the 'dark-blue' line who then moved to H&C/Circle as an "MGB" (Money Grabbing potato!) when the Circle went OPO. A few years later I went on to the Metropolitan Railway and contentedly remained there until (early) retirement. Forum is looking good! :-)

Hi all. I used to work at Liverpool St. and Moorgate (LU)had some fun times but happily retired. I found this site by accident while trawling the www popped in and thought 'wow this looks good, new and interesting'. I'm a member of the District Dave forum but am quite disillusioned with all the 'you can't do this and you can't do that' attitude from the Admin and Mods, it's at time worse than being at work.
Good luck with the Forum.
Jean.
