I've noticed the school crossing lights at Turnham Green (that tell Picc drivers to stop there) are working again. Anyone know when these last worked before?

Interesting, cheers. I wonder why they have decided to fix them.

I seem to recall that they haven't worked for about 10 years. I remember them working during my training but they failed soon after and I never saw them work again.
I can't see what the problem was, flashing lights are hardly rocket science?

I saw them (well, one side only) working for a few days about 8 years ago, I forget how I knew what they were for! They didn't last long!
Good to see them in action again!!

They used to work when I was an Acton lineman but ill health forced me off the track in 2002 so it's about 12 years since I last saw them working!

They flash to remind the Picc drivers to stop at Turnham Green, before 0645 and after 2230

Blimey. I was a signaller there and never even knew they existed. Are they controlled by a timer?

I never did find out how they were controlled.
A sensible thing would be to fit a timer. I suspect an on/off switch in the supervisor's office was fitted which relied on them 1. Being there and 2. remembering, which might explain the very random nature of them actually working.

Both were in full and clear operation tonight. I wonder what most of the District Line drivers make of them, since they are clearly visible from the Local line ....and of course a District can always be sent up the fast!

Being there and 2. remembering, which might explain the very random nature of them actually working. I had to reset them once years ago, it was actually outside my D/P signal maintenance area (end of Acton east sidings, all roads west to Heathrow, Ealing Broadway and the Met boundary west of South Harrow) but I ISTR that they were timed and that it was the timing that I had to correct. I suspect all the controlling equipment was in Turnham Green IMR but I really can't recall. In fact in eight years or so on the Picc working out of Bollo House I can only recall attending Turnham Green on three occasions, once to correct the lighting, once on a morning rush hour track failure and one night shift chasing faults on the TD cable between there and Acton East IMR. Turnham Green was part of the District line signal maintenance area so a District lineman should know all about the lighting and how it is controlled.

Where exactly are they? I guess they must be before Turnham Green as if they were in the platform are and the train was doing 40mph that's not enough time to stop!
