The cost is the reason why it was retained, you would have had to replace the frame with an IMR plus find room in Barking or Earls Court for more equipment, plus it would be a waste to do so.

I am sure that when I visited Earls Court on a official visit there was a desk that had Whitechapel on one of the buttons. Surely they could have done a re-control to either one of them if only for a short time. They seemed to have wasted millions already. Even a small diagram as the layout has been reduced considerable.

When the PPP first came in and the signalling at Whitechapel needed replacing it was planned to go to Barking. All they did was a temp fix at Whitechapel and with the siding at West Ham they could get away with it, re Earls Court the original plan was for Whitechapel to come under their control should have gone all the way to Upminster!

Having done some digging could they have not just converted the frame like the one at Liverpool St and West Kensington East? I'm sure someone on here said about spare desks from Cobourg St but not needed now.

This weekend 21/22 November 2020 see the District line closed between Upminster to Tower Hill, for signal testing between Stepney Green and Upminster for the next stage of the 4LM upgrade. When this area is controlled from Hammersmith SCC this will see Barking and Upminster signal cabins closed.

Everything is value for money how long for that is the big question. Surely it would had helped in the interim, I heard they were going to have a Wimbledon desk a few years back but it seemed to die a death after the chief of LY moved from the Wimbledon branch. The amount of money wasted by TfL must a colossal amount it is as if they have money to burn which I suppose they do well that is how it seems to me. All companies waste money so no different to anyone else.
