Putney Bridge's westbound platform which stands on stilts is due to close and be removed next weekend and westbound trains diverted through the centre disused bay road. My question is did the station have 3 platforms with the westbound on stilts from original opening or was the westbound platform added later?

Checking through my Alan Godfrey OS reprints, the present WB platform is not part of the original station shown on the 1894 OS map (Putney Bridge and Fulham staion), although it is shown on the 1913 OS map (Putney Bridge and Hurlingham station), with the original WB road converted into a bay road' The NLS site shows the two different stages of the station. Select the large scale 1893-1895 map to see the original layout. Zoom and scroll around as required. [ Click here ]Note I've found that in Firefox, clicking on the link my just return back to the forum page. This seems to be a Probords thing - the same happens on DD (started about 2 weeks ago). I don't know if this happens to everyone using Firefox or just me. It seems to work OK with other browsers. The NS link is below maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/index.cfm#zoom=19&lat=51.4684&lon=-0.2090&layers=173

Are you sure it's next weekend as the tfl track closeure plans does not show a shut down over the 3 day bank holiday on the Wimbledon road ?

I have just looked at the track closures and between 28th May- 30th May no service between Earls Court and Wimbledon, so that must be when it's being done.

Nortub - just tried the 'click here' link on Firefox and it worked without problems. Must be my Firefox setup then. I'll have to try it on another PC. It works OK on Pale Moon (a Firebox based browser). I've probably blocked something on it or it has a cookie missing, or it just doesn't like me!

It does seem as I suspected the Westbound platform was a later addition and is now going to return to it's original state.
