I have noticed that a majority of new members do not introduce themselves and can not understand why. If they gave a bit of background without going into too much detail so as to stop anyone identifying them or if they like they could. They could also say what it is they like about London's Transport.

I don't know how many members the group has now but judging by the scant amount of posts from a very small minority of 'regulars' one might be forgiven for thinking no more than a dozen!

Looking at the members list I see lots of names with no post since they joined, may be its time that people who have not posted for say two years to have their names removed ?

A few forums i am on make new members introduce themselves before they are granted access to the full forum. A simple one line introduction is all that is needed.

Q That is a good policy but I believe anyone who has joined a group and never posted anything including a basic intro is always going to be a lurker for one reason or another. I suspect that non-posting members are from the other place and hope to read topics that are forbidden there!

I was thinking of that but some people lurk and I think if you are invisible it does show the last time you logged in which may well be a long time ago so just because they have not posted I don't think would be fair. Most of the other forums that I am on do this.

I suspect that non-posting members are from the other place and hope to read topics that are forbidden there! I noticed a fair few that have not logged on here but the other place well you know what I mean and one of them was a mod but seems to have had their wings clipped. I look over there from time to time but generally there is little or nothing of interest to me. I did note that the mods have had a reshuffle, a lot might be read into that but I feel no need to comment further in that regard. What I will say is that it appears to have been decimated as a useful resource unless one is little more than a train spotter and my only real interest in rolling stock ended when my duties no longer included riding in cabs and taking leading car numbers! I also have little or no interest in modern signalling, I was lucky to spend my years on the system with 'real' signalling although I did miss out on a lot of mechanical rod & wire kit that I would have loved to have worked on. Modern signalling is of course a communications system, one of many, rather than LT signalling which was one of a kind!
