The details below have been copied from Locomotive L11 & Epping Signal Cabin and Cravens Heritage Trains Facebook pages.
Now that the 'End of Tube Event' has been announced by EOR, we can promote it openly here. If you're wondering why we haven't said anything already, it's because we had an understanding with EOR that as it's their event, we wouldn't make our statement until they made theirs. Also, you may see or hear from some sources that the visiting steam loco is to be ex Great Western Railway pannier tank L92. This was to be the case, but it is now unable to attend and has been replaced by Met No.1.
Following its outing on the test track last week (I haven't seen the results yet) the Cravens is now back at Northfields for some further attention before it begins its journey to Epping. When this has been completed, the plan is for the unit to work under its own power from Northfields to Ruislip Depot via Acton Town and Rayners Lane. Some testing will then be carried out with the Cravens and the Schomas to prove that the whole ensemble will function effectively on the EOR. This is necessary because the proposed method of operation has never been done before.
For the second leg of the journey, a Schoma and a battery loco will be attached at each end of the Cravens. The battery-Schoma-Cravens-Schoma-battery formation will depart Ruislip and work to Epping on traction current. Upon arrival, the battery locos will be detached and the train will cross the boundary on to the EOR under Schoma power. This is expected to take place on the night of 25th-26th September. We don't yet have a date for when the Cravens will travel from Northfields to Ruislip, but the aim is to allow as much time at Ruislip as possible for the compatibility testing with the Schomas and any final adjustments to be made.
