I suspect that there may be some who liked these buses but I see they have brought out a book on them, perhaps instead of a book signing a book burning would be better.

They were a nightmare! In North London we had them on the 149 route to Liverpool Street from Edmonton Green. Okay so they carried more passengers (or should that be fare dodgers?) but they created traffic jams on already congested streets. The first bendy buses I saw in service were in Nottingham out of NCT South Notts garage in Gotham, the manager there was an ex London Riverside garage driver and he was quite happy for me to walk around the facilities unaccompanied with my camera in my spotting days before I moved to Lincoln. There were two bendy buses and I don't think they were in service a week before having to be withdrawn after being vandalised by having windows smashed. I used to be a regular visitor to Gotham but I haven't been near or by in the last 10 years.

RT when they first came into service I thought that all fares had been done away with, but when you stood at a bus top you would see people would wait rather than get on a double decker. Then when TfL were aware they started to target with revenue staff as well as Police and there was also the problem of catching fire quite a few were destroyed IIRC.

I was a rare bus user after 1982, although on a Friday night if I wasn't working I'd take buses from Edmonton Green to Warren Street in my 'clubbing' days. I can only recall using the 149 route bendy buses a couple of times to go to Seven Sisters when I had to do the odd day shift. Mostly I used my car travelling to and from work and when on duty unless I was driving company vehicles. Indeed I seldom used my pass to travel on LUL/LBL services outside working hours and usually only used such services on the occasional day shift.
