I've written to Cravens Heritage Trains asking when their next Open Day will be for Epping Cabin, as soon as I know I'll let you know.

It's definitely going to happen just got to sort out 'when'.
I've proposed a two prong visit that should encourage those with a passion for LU Signalling and Rolling Stock (L11). Once we get a fixed date I can then go on a bender promoting it. Watch this space.

A little story about the signal cabin at Epping, well not actually the cabin but the points leaving epping. This was a Saturday around midday, about 1982, I think! Me and my driver were just changing ends, we met in the middle and were having a chat, the signal then cleared for us to leave, my driver then went to the toilet, when he came back the signal went back to red!, turns out the points failed in front of us! The group manager at the time, who dealt with the scorpions at Ongar, guess you know the guy by now, he got down on the track scotching and clipping, it was clipping and scotching then, then the signal man started throwing the points in front of him! My driver and myself were on the platform and we heard the groupie shouting out some kind of obscenities in the direction of the cabin! We finally left Epping about 30 late, got taken off at Leytonstone and was told the rest of our duty was cancelled! What joy! We both ended up in The Railway Bell outside South Woodford Station for a quickie or three!

Ah yes I enjoyed many a jar in there at lunchtime when I was based at the end of the station car park as an instructor in the new works training school from 1982-1985. Of course when the Training Division manager came to visit from 10A Wood Lane he would treat us to fish and chips in Woods and then take us to the Bell for a couple of pints over which we talked 'business' of course. Woods fish and chip shop was known in the Signal department as the Inspectors restaurant as they used to travel there often. I really used to enjoy whole plaice and chips there, one of the best chippies around at the time.
