Severe delays while we fix a signal failure at Queensway.
Nice place to have a signal failure in the peak I don't think. 'Stick it in RM then carry on driver'

If it's just a signal failing caused by software, bonding, track circuit failure, rubbish etc. then yes it can be as easy as that but the problems arise through blocking back. Without full details it's hard to ascertain what the problem is and why it's causing so much disruption. Assuming they still have control of the site and it's just a signal failure the signalman can apply a 'Route Secure' to signals protecting the crossover, the train can move in RM until codes are picked up. I can say for sure that they'll be working there little socks off at Wood Lane.

Can anyone enlighten us as to what the failure actually was as it seemed to go on an awful long time?

Service update at 11:45 Severe delays due to an earlier signal failure at Queensway.
Hang on a mo, the Service Update is timed at 11.45 it's now 1602. Does that mean that NOTHING has changed for the past 5 hours or so?

It was a defective piece of trackside equipment. From what I know about the incident first one component was suspected and replaced, that didn't clear the fault and it took some time to narrow it down and decide if it was a defective cable or piece of kit.
Things weren't helped by the time of the failure (about 0440) and having to go and get spares twice, the first time from Marble Arch and the second from Leytonstone.
