Hello
I remember I used to use the NLL in Silverlink days. OK the trains weren't fancy, the station wasn't glowing orange, and there was no gateline....
I accept that LOROL has made some great improvements.
However cosmetic stuff isn't anywhere near as important as the service.
At my local station, in Silverlink days, we could enjoy 4 trains an hour (7 days a week)
Enter LOROL, weeks, months, years of weekend closures, evening works, disruption galore....
Now the line 'upgrade' has finished, I can finally enjoy from my local station, errrrm 4 trains an hour !!!!
Go figure !

Now the line 'upgrade' has finished, I can finally enjoy from my local station, errrrm 4 trains an hour !!!! Go figure ! I must admit to having a chuckle at this because you are so right. Multi millions of pounds have been spent on upgrading the signalling systems and rolling stock which incidentally when they first started (Central Line) they got the worst rolling stock in living memory and a signalling system that took years to fully implement. You only have to look back at the Central and Jubilee upgrades, you couldn't make that up if you tried although I'll except it doesn't 'fall over' as frequently as it did. The biggest mistake was that most (if not all) of the ATP systems on LU are not compatible with each other meaning that rolling stock can't be cascaded from one line to another if and when the case arose where under the old system most (again if not all) tube stock could go to any line, the Central being the slight exception because of the Hi-Lift shoe gear but that was a relatively easy fix. London Underground (operating) is the most fragmented system I know of with absolutely no room to manoeuvre in the decades to come, their short term thinking will come back and bite them. I should add that the upgrades so far have produced only 3-4 TPH more than the old systems.

I live on the NLL too and despite the fact I see a good service, the Sunday timetable is absolute rubbish!! First train runs at something like 0930 to Stratford! I really wish they would run earlier....

I'm sure LO would love to but they are restricted by the paths they can obtain from National Rail so it will always be a compromise. One problem that LU doesn't (mostly) have.

Pathing is what I thought but since I moved here, I haven't seen (or heard) any freight through the area :/

I'm not sure the freight actually has to run in the path they have purchased.

I used to travel on it and I remember the service being awful, admittedly the customer service aspect played a big part with no info, but there felt like longer waits and more cancellations. Whereas now I thought it was only a 7 or 8 minute service rather than the 15 before. Although I don't use it that often these days so can't say categorically.

When I started working as a Guard at Willesden in 1993 the service pattern was as follows. Richmond to North Woolwich a 20 minute headway from start to finish. Last train being the 22:37 from Richmond to Stratford with a last train at 22:57 to Willesden. Half Hourly all day on Sundays, no service during the winter timetable Camden Road to Richmond. Willesden to Clapham Junction no service existed at the time. Gospel Oak to Barking Half hourly from start of service until aprox 20.30 then hourly until last train (then 21:55) no service on Sundays during the winter timetable. Euston to Watford Junction 20 minute headway from start to finish.
Now compare that to what we have now. Some say Silverlink was every 15 minutes on the NLL however that was only during the peak periods and the North Woolwich section from Stratford was reduced to a half hour service. Whilst the Willesden to Clapham Junction service was started up just before it went private. It only operated at a half hour level from 07:00 to 19:00. Later improved to finish at 22:05.
Now we have people moaning that the service levels are not good enough (rolls eyes) Stratford to Willesden has a service level at worst of a train every 15 minutes, at best every 7 to 8. Ok the Sundays start later, but train crew are already working a booked 1 in 2 Sundays by increasing the times of opening staff working on a Sunday will not have any off save for long weekends, about once every five weeks.
