Blimey that looks terrible! The drill bit went right the way through the tunnel then judging from the dent? Did someone say the car was eventually repaired? Where would you even start with a job like that unless you had anther end to graft on!

It was mid to late 1986. I remember one of my fellow apprentices doing an impression of a workman scratching his head wondering where his drill had gone!
The Train Crew did really well as I remember. The Driver had an amazing escape. I'm not sure if it was just a rumour or enthusiastic reporting in 'The Scum' but I believe the Driver Motored and Braked from the rear ('Driver stays with the brake') and the Guard observed from the front. The passengers passed messages verbally as the Loudaphone was damaged during impact.

It was car 1531, replaced by spare 1659 (and renumbered).
