Just shows you how many took any notice when the strikes were on and what Tfl said about delaying the launch. The only thing though is Diamondgeezer did not mention that it was not about the drivers alone or their money.

I find the blogger article to be more beeper centex than real substance. The world does not grind to a halt because the tube doesn't run as we know. NIght time is little different to daytime and anyone who is fit enough to be out clubbing, drinking and / or eating late should be fit enough to walk home should the need arise. Back in the day when I was a regular night owl on the very late night & early morning West End weekend clubbing scene I found Shank's Pony no less a mode of transport than buses or cabs to outer north London. More than once after 8 or 10 hours in the West End in the days when there was less public night transport and at hours when most cabbies had packed up and gone home I would walk most usually from Charlotte Street where my favourite very late night haunts were. Warren St - Mornington Crescent - Camden Town - Holloway - Crouch End - Turnpike Lane and along the Roundway and A10 beyond the Cambridge roundabout as far as Bury Street to the most northerly area of Edmonton. Typically it would take me up to 5 hours and it wasn't so pleasant in the winter when the drop in temperature between the West End and outer London was very noticeable but it was always a sobering experience and I always slept well and deeply for a restful four or so hours. Mind you the last time I did that was about 25 years ago and these days I would expect there to be plenty of street transport to be had if people are willing to walk just a couple of miles to find it!
