It appears to be impossible to stay logged in, it is most irritating after replying to a thread to discover that one is no longer logged in and anything typed is lost when leaving the page one is on to do so!
Where is the 'stay logged in checkbox'?

I'm not sure why you're getting logged out whilst on the forum, however a couple of things: Ensure that the PC is set to accept / allow cookies from Proboards.com. I assume you have otherwise I don't think it would let you sign it. You may also be asked about a londonstransport cookie (I forget the exact name) accept that as well. When on the Login screen, tick the Remember Me box. This should be sufficient to keep you logged on at all times until you click the Logout button. When you open the browser again to the Forum site, you should automatically be logged in.
Losing messages With regards to losing what they've typed: If a message has been typed in but not actually sent and then you move away from that page and then return to it, the message will have been lost. However anything you type can be saved in draft as long as you have drafts enabled in your profile setup: Profile / edit profile / enable drafts select "Yes"
Then when you go back to the thread where you had created the message but not saved it, you will normally see a message telling you that there is a recent draft you were working on and would you like to restore it. Click on "Yes" and you will get the text back and you can carry on with the message.

Has that remember me checkbox been there all the time? I looked high and low for it and if it was then it must be a case of being unable to see the wood for the trees! All I saw was blue everywhere except the very large username and password boxes.
Cookies are another issue entirely, at some point I expect to have to disallow cookies altogether. I hate the whole concept of unwanted advertising online but what I really hate is adverts popping up on my Win 7 task bar and that is what has begun to happen since the cookies standards changed recently.
Of course it's a pain because, used properly, cookies are very useful and doing without them means having to personally remember everything about everything useful online instead of the browsers doing it for me.

Yes, it's always been there :-) One one PC it remembers the password and that appears as soon as I click in the password box, but I still have to Login each time. I suspect that, in this case, the password is remembered by IE and not by proboards. I'll have to remember to tick the box next time I'm on that one.
I didn't know about the draft though (I suspect the default is off) and I was very pleased when I found the setting and enabled it!
I always block cookies on principle, unless they really have to be used to use a site, such as for logging in etc. Out of all the cookies that were requested to be saved when I first accessed the forum, I blocked everything except the proboards and londonstransport ones, although I can't find the londonstransport cookie anywhere in the list.
