A flyer for the Epping Project. The countdown begins and the weather looks good. This weekend there will be further Working days and an Open Day at Epping Signal Cabin. We need as many volunteers as possible over both days to get down and dirty with L11 to get that protective coat of paint on her. Sensible footwear is a must, hi-vi vests are not compulsory. Equipment for the job is available but if you have a spare paint brush, wire brush etc. bring them along we also need a couple of ladders (folding/step) so if you're coming by car bring that as well. We're hoping for a visit from the local press on one of the days. Locomotive L11 and the Signal Cabin will both be open for internal inspection. Get the latest news on the Cravens Unit visit to the Epping - Ongar line. 10.00 for a 10.30 start. See you all there.

One of these days I'll have to try and get down there, I hadn't been more than 10 miles from home at any time in the last three years since my surgery, the thought of being more than an hour from home was quite daunting but five weeks ago I was in Manningtree in Essex at an impossible to miss family gathering to see my sisters, my last surviving aunt and a few of my cousins from several branches of my father's side of the family. I hadn't seen my sisters or their children for ten years and some of the cousins there present for 40 to 50 years. It was a gruelling but enjoyable Saturday as it took me more than four hours to drive there following the scenic route early in the morning and just over three hours to get home again by major route. There are two facts that I know to be true, the distance from Lincoln to Epping is less in time and distance when using the M11 and avoiding the busy period (I used to travel to and from my former North London home to collect mail via that route and be back home in Lincoln within 6 hours) and having made the recent all day (0645-0115) trip to Manningtree I now know that such is not beyond me. I'd love to see the state of Epping signal cabin these days and to meet other group members in person, unfortunately I have a prior engagement at home this weekend otherwise I would join you. I'm sure I'll make it one day and sooner rather than later.
