Walked one of the track beds for the first time in a good few years today, from East Finchley to Finsbury Park with my better half as something to do until the tube wasn't so crowded.
They have put up tube map type signs along the route, the type you would get inside a train. Instead of stations, they have points of interest along the route, and instead of zones at the bottom they have the distance between them.
Along with the tunnels (gated off very securely) you can also spot places along the route where wooden sleepers have been used for various things, including steps and retaining walls, amongst other things.
Well worth a walk if anyone is that way, a very easy and level walk, as can be expected from a trackbed.

There used to be an annual walk by a group every July if I have it right quite a nice walk and like you say there is evidence of the works that were carried out.

Another of my "must do that" walks that I never seem to get around to. Mind you, the other day I finally walked the short bit of track bed (now a walkway) that runs between Merantun Way / Christchurch St and Flemming Mead (part of the Wimbledon to Tooting Junction railway). I've also walked along the length of Merantun Way to the Christchirch St roundabout, but as that's a road instead of a walkway, I don't suppose that counts One day, I might take a saunter along the track bed walkway in the opposite in the opposite direction, from Morden Road to Merton Park tram stop just for the sake of completeness! One nice railway walk I did a few years ago was along the Promenade Plantee in Paris. This is a three mile long walk, including a long stretch of viaduct well laid out in a garden effect. It starts at the viaduct from near the disused Bastille main line station. It's something I stumbled on by chance during a walk around the area and it's well worth a visit (as is another "hidden" area - The Parc de Belleville Click on the link below for more information about the Promenade Plantee and a video covering the walk: [ Click Here ]
