And this is from someone who oversees the safety critical operation of a 150 year old railway which four million people rely on everday? That seriously stinks of complete arrogance, especially after the "very slight movement of the track" on the District line. Fills one with confidence Just makes me wonder if the Lunatics have taken over more than one Asylum?

Never forget that it was cuts in L&E maintenance that resulted in the King's Cross Fire. One might've thought that in the wake of the enquiry into that and the £billions spent since as a result that management of H&S, particularly with regard to the travelling public, would be number one priority. I have no doubt whatever that those in very high places believe this to be so but I also believe that they accept whatever they are told by the heads of the various departments and it seems clear that somewhere in the chain of command there is an abdication of responsibility. Anyone who has served a decent number of years as a dedicated and enthusiastic railway servant (to quote an old description of a true railwayman or railwaywoman) will be well aware that there has long been a disconnect between those at the sharp end and senior management. In my experience those at the top never had a true picture of the day to day environment and operations at the sharp end, rather they were presented with an image to their liking which allowed those in between an easier life. I suspect there are even fewer railway servants in the over populated organisation that is corporate LUL than there were in the days of LT when pretty much the entire combine was run with a far less inflated but much more efficient management structure. No doubt someone will want to defend the indefensible but there really is no excuse for bad management and this does seem to be another instance of exactly that.
