TfL will be taking over the West Anglia Inners, Shenfield Metro and Romford-Upminster services from 0200 on 31st May 2015.
With a year to go, more details are now emerging about the transfer and what's going to happen.
WA and RMF-UPM will be branded as London Overground, and Shenfield Metro will be branded as Crossrail.
New trains are planned for all the lines, Rominster remaining an operational headache as it will need to use a train from the WA or NLL fleet. Our new class 345s on the Shenfields being fixed 10 car units won't be able to fit in the platforms.
The new class 345s for Crossrail are being built by Bombardier and are part of the Aventra family.
The main differences from the current fleet is the walk through design (like class 378 and S stock), longer carriages and 9 car trains. With the longer carriages this means that a 9 car class 345 will be roughly the same length as a 10 car 315 would be (if they were possible).
In a departure from normal mainline style, the DOO monitor inside the cab will not be fed from cameras fitted to the side of the train, they are installing the same type of system used on LUL where platform cameras wirelessly send images to the drivers cab. Whilst I don't have all the details when the survey was done at my station I gathered they were fitting a leaky feeder areal to the platform face instead of in the four foot (as is common on LUL I believe) to avoid issues with track workers and machines damaging the infrastructure during maintenance.
When I receive any further information I'll post it in this thread, alternatively if you have any questions about the routes going to TfL or Crossrail I'll see what I know or can find out for you.
