Hi,
Hoping someone can clarify what a Marker light was for, I have been given an old supplement for the Central line for Fairlop the diagram has them marked on and the symbols are there saying that it is a Marker light but there is no mention what purpose they serve could someone please enlighten me.

I take it you mean the yellow peril 15/48 If you look at the bottom of page 389 there is an explanation of maker lights and what they are for. HTH

I can't speak to 'marker lights' at Fairlop, however, generally 'marker lights' do what they say, literally. There are about 120 marker lights in the Heathrow loop for example! I know that because I used to maintain them.
I'll leave you to work out what their purpose might be.

I think they are for identifying where the shafts are located at Cromer Rd, Grass area 14, Sanctuary Rd and Wessex Rd.

RT I think you have me beat the only other thing I can think off would be signal equipment not the actual signals but the connections etc other than that I will throw in the towel and await your reply.

It's been quite a few years since I went round the loop (walking) I have racked my brain and can not remember what they were for so I to would like to know.

Ok chaps! There is one marker light above each tunnel telephone in the Heathrow Loop. Unless you're walking the track (5300m is my recollection) or you're a Picc line driver you'd probably never notice them. They are always on, lit from the signals 100v power supplies but the fittings are poorly designed and fill with tunnel dust quickly leaving an already dim light (designed to indicate the location of a tunnel telephone rather than light up the tunnel) so dim as to go unnoticed unless one is within a few metres of it!

Thanks a lot put me out of my misery, I just looked at the yellow peril and there is mention of those marker lights.
