I can't recall the test track being anything other than the eastbound local so my best guess would be the 1970s resignalling circa 1975 although I don't actually know. Northfields IMR was one of my maintenance sites and South Ealing WR24 circuitry and wiring always looked to be original to me i.e. the same age as all the other Northfields signal equipment. Having said that the possession keyswitch in the old running office at Northfields appeared to be more modern but it's hard to be certain as such controls do tend to get moved if an office moves and in any case internal equipment tends to age more slowly although of course the definitive answer would be found in the signal bookwiring
I had often wondered why there was a possession switch on the WL34 westbound starter signal post at Acton Town.

I had often wondered why there was a possession switch on the WL34 westbound starter signal post at Acton Town. RT, I know it's been a while since you worked that area Westbound starter you are referring to is WL32 Rte 2. What is embarassing is that I had forgotten the signal number, what is really embarassing is that I looked it up on a diagram in my filofax and incorrectly typed WL34 even though it was clearly WL32. My only excuse for that is that I still had WR24 in my head! I last worked on the track in 2001 but I was still cleaning the IMR lever frames and testing sites from the control room until autumn 2004 and I really shouldn't have forgotten Acton as it was my depot! Alas these days my head is full of what are now more important things to me, my health, my hobbies and the spiralling cost of living!
