There seems to be a lot of (on-going) disruption in the suburbs and the south due to: "A build up of ice on the 'third rail' (the rail where trains get their power from) is preventing trains from running normally because the ice interrupts the power supply"
Haven't they heard of de-icing or was there a sudden unexpected deep freeze this morning?

The BBC web site weather had been forecasting around -1 during the night in my area for at least the last couple of days. Perhaps NR should upgrade their piece of seaweed Sod's law. It had been raining on and off this morning. I had to go out, but thought I'd wait until it eased off. It then stopped and brightened up a bit, although a little yellowy looking in the distance. By the time I got off the bus it was hailing a bit, then suddenly it hailed hard continuously for about ten minutes, complete with thunder. It eased off and carried on for about another ten minutes. The end result was about 3/4" layer of hail everywhere. Now that was unexpected!

The NR weather site predicted a high chance of a moderate frost. Not sure if that counts as unexpected or not.
