Thanks for putting the photos really great and to see the signal still there after all those years but yes in need of being saved.

Those were taken in late 2011, I'm not sure if the signal is still there now, as can be seen from the photo it needed saving urgently and there was talk of storing it until it is needed again. I will try and find out for you. I'm assuming it's on the EOR side of the fence? If they can't use it I'm sure the crew at Epping Signal Cabin would love to have it.

I wouldn't be surprised if LW2 was beyond salvage one way or another, that said LUL will have plenty of spare signals and other parts which it might be persuaded to part with for a good cause. I understand Simon, the EOR signal manager, moved on some while ago, I recall he chased me up for signal post telephones and CCTV kit circa 2008/9 but failed to follow up any of the contacts that I gave him. Perhaps he did better with signal kit, I know he had feelers out at the time although AFAIR his priority at the time was sorting out the track. The LW2 location has certainly seen better days, it's a no brainer not to leave the Westinghouse cases open to the elements. I note that all that has been left in situ is the dual track condenser probably because the condensers are H&S hazards (they leak nasty chemicals especially when rusting). We spent lots of time on unplanned work replacing such condensers on the Picc in the late 90s. When I changed the last one in the Acton area at the time the new disposal procedure was in force, similar to asbestos recovery the units had to be double bagged in strong polythene bags and sealed for disposal via the stores. Indeed the storeman had to accompany me during the night shift to observe correct recovery procedure and then we filled in the recovery paperwork together. I have no idea what the stores did once I delivered the storeman and the bagged condensers back to REW.

I think Simon went to the Swanage railway and there must be loads of spare signals following the upgrades.

I think Simon went to the Swanage railway and there must be loads of spare signals following the upgrades. Yep I think the signal manager of the KESR mentioned that to me, Simon was in contact with Nick and the managers of some of the other preserved lines around the country. There usually are lots of spares ready to be scrapped after REW has taken what it wants to keep the other lines working. I recall WL20/21 rusting away at Hanger Lane Junction and that was rebuilt with parts recovered from the Central line after its resignalling. Many of the trainstops were refurbished for use of the JLE and the relays were refurbished to keep other lines working. I don't know if the recently resignalled lines have had the old equipment recovered yet, it could take years!

I think you are right the Jubilee has been done for a few years yet there are loads of old signals in situ still.
