If it runs during engineering hours then it will be published in the EWSA and TC at least that way the diehard photographers won't miss it. On the other hand, with a CTC it could run anytime with a local arrangement in place with the old man!

Do we know why this unit is being moved to Ealing Common depot ? Its being moved to make space for the S7s which will be stabled at Northfields Depot.

Can some one tell us what a CTC is please ? Certificate of Technical Conformance or an MOT. Providing the Unit conforms to acceptable safety standards (not all modern) it is given a CTC to prove it's fitness to run in passenger service. Cravens Heritage Trains owners of the Unit purchased the 3 cars in 1995. When the Unit operated the last Epping - Ongar shuttle it went back to Hainault Dt. where it was then 'stopped'. When CHT operated it in passenger service at Easter 95' the Unit was given a 2 day CTC in order for a short test run and the main railtour, the one day CTC's were issued for the next few short railtours but eventually CHT had proven the reliability of the Unit and there professionalism in dealing with the teccy side of things to the Rolling Stock Engineer who subsequently issued a 3 year CTC.

I remember those days back in 1995! Hainault Depot did a lot of work on it back then. Unfortunately they also decided to take it through the acid wash which damaged the paint. With just a few days to go before the Tour, I ended up at Hainault with a pot of varnish and a large brush painting the most damaged parts of the paintwork. On the day the train looked perfect! The test run from the depot to Woodford a few days earlier was fun. Since the depot had been rerailed to accommodate the 92s, large current gaps had been created which (with such a short train) meant we had to take a run up to clear the gap. The 60TS crawled to a slow with the current rails just in sight. It was a heart stopping moment. We just made it. On arrival at Woodford the test train crew wanted to take it to Epping, with the evening peak approaching I called up the signalman to ask if he would clear the route for Epping. But having consulted with the Controller decided we had to go back to depot. And so we did. Dean

The 38' car was fitted with cast iron brake blocks which we ditched after a certain DMT took the helm and hammered in to Epping, the blocks were never the same after that (you could smell them) and screeched like mad. Hainault DDM got the cleaners to acid wash the floors, they looked very clean and the only reason they were varnished was because someone knocked a tin over and it looked so good. Happy days on all the railtours but the crowning glory was the Central Line night tour. Footnote: The Cravens Unit has never failed while on a tour or in private ownership and is the only privately owned train to take over a timetabled service.

Duly noted and posted on the www. thank you. How did the stock move go, anyone get any pictures? I wouldn't be surprised if they store it at LTM Acton considering there is loads of 'S7' preparatory works happening at Ealing Common Depot at the moment.
