ATO signalling on the District line now extends from Stepney Green to Sloane Square, two more signal migration areas were completed this year. Whitechapel signal cabin was closed and the desk at Earls Court that controlled Mansion House and Embankment was decommissioned, the Tower Hill control desk was out of use when ATO was extended through to Monument. Only two signal control desks sill in use at Earls Court, this will drop down to one later in 2021.

I have seen elsewhere that they complete the Circle line this year (Nov) and out to Upminster early next year (Feb) has this changed then?

The proposed dates for the next areas of the re-signalling and transfer of control to Hammersmith are :- SMA =Signal Migration Area. SMA 5 Sloane Square to Fulham Broadway/ Earl’s Court to High Street Kensington to Paddington Circle, Earl’s Court to Barons Court/Earl’s Court/Kensington Olympia. The weekend of 6/7 November 2021. SMA 6 Stepney Green to Dagenham Heathway, February 2022 SMA 7 Dagenham Heathway to Upminster, April 2022 SMA 8 Finchley Road to Preston Road late 2022 SMA 9 Preston Road to West Harrow/Moor Park 2023 SMA 13 Moor Park to Watford/Chesham/Amersham 2023. This schedule is subject to alterations and could be delayed.

No problem, just noticed SMA8 I typed Preston Rood instead of Preston Road. The boundaries at this station will mean trains will have to stop on the fast roads to change from Trip Cock mode to ATO when travelling on the Southbound fast. On the Northbound fast trains will have to stop to change from ATO to Trip Cock mode. The signals for this have already been installed but are covered at this moment, they will come into play when ATO is extended from Finchley Road. Trains on the local roads will stop at Preston Road station to do the change over .

Having the boundaries there will cause a problem train running fast then has to stop and change over and what if there is a problem why they can't put it where at least passengers could get off. I have seen photos on line showing the new system in place but covered up. I did hear that it won't go north of Wembley Park even though they have installed all over the place. We will have to wait and see.

SMA5 is now due to be completed for ATO in the spring of 2022, if this goes ahead the whole of the circle line will be signalled from Hammersmith.

Late as to be expected they were a bit early as it should have been this year. Will it make the Circle any different when it's all controlled from Hammersmith I suspect not.

SMA6 between Stepney Green and Becontree is due to be commissioned on Saturday 14 January 2023. Barking Cabin will then only control signalling at Dagenham East.

I have been told that if all goes well then it will extend to Upminster in March so most of the District controlled by Hammersmith. Once they do the Parsons Green section then Earls Court control room can close.

Don’t expect Earls Court to close this year may be next year Drico, I never said it would close this year. Earls Court can only close when Parsons Green/Putney Bridge are CBTC whenever that is. After SMA7 they move onto the Met as that is SMA8 Finchley Road-Preston Road.
